Many people have asked me for a natural way to disinfect and freshen their home.
I love a sprig of fresh basil in a glass of water on my kitchen bench for that gorgeous scent every time I walk past.
Picked straight from my herb pot, it’s free and handy to add to dinner recipes and salads at the end of the day.
But if you want a re-usable spray solution, these are two of my favourite natural disinfectant recipes:
Eucalyptus Disinfectant Room Spray
Place 2 cups warm distilled water in a glass spray bottle.
Add 9 drops of lemon or bergamot essential oil, 9 drops of eucalyptus oil, 16 of drops pine oil and 3 drops of peppermint or spearmint essential oil.
Shake mixture well. Apply the eucalyptus room spray as needed to disinfect and freshen the air.
Tea Tree Oil Disinfectant Room Spray
Place 2 cups of warm distilled water into a glass spray bottle.
Add 6 drops of tea tree oil, ¼ cup of white vinegar and 3 drops of lemon, orange or bergamot essential oil.
Shake the mixture well and use it to disinfect and freshen the air.
These two room fresheners are a natural, chemical-free way to keep your household free from nasty airborne bacteria (as eucalyptus and tea tree oils are natural disinfectants), plus they leave a lovely, fresh lingering scent.
Room sprays are perfect for smelly bedrooms (if you have teenagers, you’ll know what I mean!), toilets, bathrooms, the lounge room, dining room, kitchen, children’s play areas (because they are completely natural and safe), around pet bedding areas, the laundry and outdoor entertaining areas.
In fact, you can even take your spray bottle with you to use in the car for a fresh scent.
I recommend using a glass spray bottle, as plastic bottles can break down over time and you don’t want any nasty plastic chemicals infiltrating your natural spray!
